Aurora's Dance

HLarson3 02 Dec 2023

I’ve been so busy with family life and work, it’s been a great struggle to get a painting going. I painted this one with two of my sons, aged 11 and 6. They painted the first half with me then came back to finish the rest a couple weeks later. I had forgotten how much I love painting, this was so much fun. The boys did amazing too! Their paintings are shown below.

Frustrations: not quite enough underpaint/liquid clear on the canvas, so my auroras came out duller than I wanted. Tough to fix after that.

Snow grass needs work.

I obviously ran out of space for a pond.

Happy spots: I was able to work with the “lay of the land” for some fun snowbanks that I think worked alright.
Fence was fun, we all loved doing that.
Cabin came out alright and icicles are fun too!

Quite happy with the distant trees.

So great to be back and to paint with my boys!!! I am extremely proud of how hard they worked and how patient they were!

Wonderful and great that you include them!

Really nice job!

The way is the goal ( Der Weg ist das Ziel)and painting together with your own children is a gift😎👍🏼🇩🇪good work

This composition is more than just beautiful. The precious time spent on this one with your sons, takes a totally different dimension. Thank you for sharing it with us. All 3 paintings look great!

Sweet!

Thank you all! Painting with them truly is a very special joy, a moment to slow down and really pursue a wonderful, beautiful journey together. The challenge, of course, is making the time for enjoyable, unhurried progress. We pulled it off this time around and can’t wait to try again, even if it is a while before it happens. It adds a whole new dimension to “The Joy of Painting.”
