"Forest Edge"
August 5, 2023
Oil on canvas
40x50 cm
So... this was the second time I painted this one.
First one was a small 10x15cm version.
I actually painted this live at a so-called "studio route".
I was a guest artist and was displaying some of my paintings in a tent I shared with someone else. In the past I have participated in what is called "painters festival" in the town my parents used to live in. At this festival we would be painting live. Later on less and less people would paint live though, but I've always liked doing it.
So when I decided to participate in this event I figured I might as well paint on the spot.
People commented they liked me doing it and that I was the only one along the route doing so.
Having people around me and chatting with me I figured I'd best go with something "simple". So I decided on 2 Bob Ross paintings on 40x50 cm canvasses, which are smaller than most of my paintings.
And even now I almost ran out of time! So many people chatting and asking me questions. :D
This one, Forest Edge S23E02, I did with the black gesso underpainting and the liquid green as a base. But instead of the round brush I only used the fan brush for the foliage. I like how it gives a looser look to all the foliage, but it does make it harder to make something look soft and misty.
And I added in some puddles.
I also used Cerulean Blue Phthalo for some of the grass in the shadowy parts. It is an opaque blue, unlike regular Phthalo and Prussian. I like playing with the warm-cool contrast from time to time and blueish shadows can help with that.
Wonderful job
