"A Walk in the Woods"
April 21, 2024
Oil on canvas
60x40cm
So...
I started with the idea of making the painting more lush in the background, more like an actual forest and not make it look like the edge of the forest back there.
Well, that part worked imho.
I also tried some of the techniques Bob often uses in the early seasons. That worked and then it didn't. So that was a mixed bag for me. In the end I took the oval brush and tapped in some more details, covering up the parts I didn't like.
The puddle is a bit too blue I think, but that's not that big a deal.
And since I put so many bushes in the background, almost covering up all the dark (which wasn't all that dark to begin with) I decided to put in some big tree trunks.
"Trees cover up a multitude of sins." is what Bob says in one JoP episode.
LOL
Anyway, this was a real struggle.
I'm not that happy with the outcome, but I have to admit it has been growing on me.
And imho it does have some good parts. I do for example like the overal atmosphere the painting has.
And the struggling2, and learning from it, is all part of the painting process. 👍
nice job, personally I think the blueness of the water works in this case. I like how lush and full the array of foliage is, yet still looks natural and not pattern-y. I really like the bark, too.
Thank you both! <3
@Jeff:
You are right, I did manage to avoid patterns in the bushes.
I noticed it is easy to end up with patterns when you are making that much foliage.
I'm glad you think it does not look pattern-y here.
It's SO easy to accidentally end up with patterns, I struggle with it. So kudos!
Beautiful version Titia!
Dank je, Jos. <3
