5/8/2023 - Cabin Hideaway - s13e11
This was another interesting one for me. I have an extremely difficult time getting the perspective right when painting a cabin or a barn, so I decided to pencil in the cabin (lots of erasing and re-penciling until I was satisfied) before I started painting. I found this to be quite satisfying as I did not have to worry about changing the painting many times to get the perspective correct. I am going to use this technique for a while until I can improve my freehand painting of barns/cabins. I also painted the cabin entirely using brushes only. I really do enjoy the brush painting process on weathered barns/cabins. The only place I used a palette knife was on the evergreen trunks and the water line.
18" x 24" canvas. As always, your comments and suggestions (especially suggestions) are desired and welcome.

purple mountain majesty..great stuff T!
Wonderful Tony! Cabin looks great.
Hi Tony. Awesome cabin and it is a star of the painting!
If you do not mind my 2 cents.
I think you are telling the story about that barn that is maintained in the perfect shape by its owner in this remote area.
However the mountains and distant trees interfere with your story and want to hijack all the attention.
The value of the mountains is too dark and deprives the barn of all the attention. The distant but not so distant trees are also very warm in color and jump out at the viewer as they want to become the star of the painting.
I have prepared the picture with adjustments on color and value (very rough idea), please let me know if you are interested to see it and I will post in the articles specially for you.
Good job
Great job Tony and I like everything about this picture as is. The cabin is excellent and I like the brownish trees between the cabin and the awesome purple mountains! Your bare trees are super! But what do I know?!
Thanks for the comments everyone. Please post the article Sunny, and thank you.
Tony, you have a great painting here, so colourful - as are all the paintings of yours that I have looked at this morning. You are progressing well. Keep going. cheers
The perspective is excellent, don't worry. Well done!

I do not mean to offend you, but rather to give you another perspective on the painting.
You achieved a great technical skill in painting details, and next step is to think telling your story via compositional/design decisions to bring your art to the next level.
Thanks Sunny - absolutely no offense taken. I am totally open to constructive criticism and advice. Thanks for taking the time - much appreciated.
