5/4/2023 - The Old Weathered Barn - s27e8
This was an interesting one for me. I came across a Paul Ranson tutorial of this painting and used a 16" x 20" oval canvas for my version. The funny thing about this painting is I never looked at the Bob Ross version until AFTER I painted my version based on Paul's tutorial.
I have an extremely difficult time getting the perspective right when painting a cabin or a barn, so in this one I followed Paul's example and penciled in the cabin before I started painting. I found this to be quite satisfying as I did not have to worry about changing the painting many times to get the perspective correct. I just may use this technique for a while until I can improve my freehand painting of barns/cabins. I also painted the barn sides using brushes only. I really do enjoy the brush painting process on weathered barns/cabins.
I had to tweak the photo a bit because it just photographed way too dark for some reason. If I ever repainted this one, I would tone down the yellow sky and probably use a different color for the trees. I found it difficult to highlight the green trees with the darker yellow background.
