Oil on canvas | 8”x10” | As I have been reflecting on the horrors of the war in Ukraine over the last few weeks, I’ve done a lot of reading and researching to try to understand the struggle that has been that of the Ukrainian people. Like many people around the world, Europe has undergone so many national boundary changes, often dividing ethnic groups. For many years, Lviv was the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia, a vassal state of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Some have speculated that Lviv could end up being the de facto capital again if Kyiv falls, God forbid. I found an interesting photo of Lviv and decided to paint from it. I hope and pray for peace to come soon, violence to end, and lives to be saved.
Thank you!
Another great building you’ve painted and beautifully researched, adding to the poignancy.
