Acrylic on canvas | 8”x10” | After my first attempt at this portrait, I was nearly ready to cover over the canvas and try again completely. Although there are still some pieces of this face that I don’t love, after some adjustments, I think I was able to salvage the original painting. Once it’s fully dry, I will work at blending the background better, but I had to lay the paint on fairly thick to thin the neck and face some. I am learning that thinning acrylic to increase the flow really is the key to creating more realistic work. I prefer thick impasto styling, but it’s good to stretch myself to try more realism.
