Oil on canvas | 8”x10” | This is a quick study I did based on a photo I took at a meadow I like to visit. My goal with this piece was to try making the effects of depth mostly with varied brush strokes.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I like the lilac tones in the sky and the texture throughout, especially the tree.
Thank you! I was able to create the effect in the sky by premixing three blues: ultramarine/cerulean/white, cerulean/white, and white/cerulean. The juxtaposition of the cool cerulean to the warm ultramarine gives the sky an interesting feel.
Did you use wax medium??what brushes ?
Can you share please?
And one more. Have you painted it on-site?
I have not painted on-site at this location before, but I'm hoping to do so in the spring when it warms up a bit.
This was using my wax medium blend. I've actually gotten to the point where I create base mediums and then tint with pigment as needed. One is a light base: beeswax/linseed oil blend mixed with Gamblin solvent-free gel and soft mixing white. The other is a dark base: beewswax/linseed oil blend mixed with Gamblin solvent-free gel, and a 3:2 ratio of ultramarine blue and burnt umber.
Nearly all of this was painted with a #6 hog bristle flat. I did use a #6 hog bristle bright to touch up the sky a bit. I don't love using a #6 for everything, but it forces me to focus less on detail and more on value contrast to achieve my desired outcome.
Oh and I did use the point of a paint knife to make a sgraffito effect in the midground of the painting.
Thank you for your response.
