Oil on canvas | 11”x17” | This is my first attempt of really doing a plein air session. I’ve painted outside but never anything serious. I went to a garden at a local park and spent the morning under a gazebo while it rained. Painting outdoors is so invigorating. I am hoping to do this more often.
I could tell this one is different from others. I am so happy you found plein air so invigorating. I think you achieved something not done before which is better variety of color and your observations of real shadow and light make this painting really alive. Awesomely done!
And almost forgot to add - new level of variety of brush strokes.
Really nice .....great job MB
Thanks, all! Sunnylady, the thing I found so fascinating about painting en plein air is that I interpreted things so much differently than I might have a photo. I showed my wife a photo of what I was painting and she preferred the painting. I was surprised by that response but then I noticed how much I pulled out hues that stuck out at me and emphasized what caught my attention rather than just the sea of greenery that dominated the garden.
Yes, indeed your greens here have more variety and it is catching attention. I love the difference in what my eyes see compare to camera/photo. Painting outside teaches to see those hues. Shadows become more complex and light is not white. :) you did awesome job here!
Thank you! Yes, it is amazing what difference it makes.
