Oil on paper

L’Hermitage is an historic archaeological site that was once a village of enslaved persons on what is now Monocacy National Battlefield. My goal was to juxtapose the natural beauty of the site’s autumnal foliage with the haunting past that has followed this road for decades. I am increasingly realizing that my "style" is to highlight nature's serenity even in the midst of places that have been tarnished by humanity's vices. It's a reminder that the Creator's original intent for his creation will still find ways to shine through even the darkest of ills.
