Oil and acrylic on paper | 9”x12” | I wanted to try a hybrid approach to this painting, with the underpainting as two coats of acrylic in order to seal the paper and also establish general composition, hue, value, etc. The acrylic underpainting’s quick drying time allowed me to work out details that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to do with oils. Then, after the acrylics had fully dried, I added a layer of gesso to the back to stiffen the paper, and then proceeded to use oil paints over the acrylics.
