Original Creation

Blazing Forest

genderspice 02 Oct 2020

I painted this while my city was filled with smoke from the forest fires several weeks ago, and it was very therapeutic! I followed along with the Secluded Forest episode but first watched the Campfire episode to get ideas for flaming it up. Secluded Forest is very green and blue based, so I changed up and created my own palette of colours and primed the black canvas with a mixture of alizarin crimson and a little bit of linseed oil. Combining techniques from both episodes, as well as looking at other actual paintings of forest fires, was a fun challenge and I couldn't be happier with the result! Most happy with the reflections of the fire and all the layers of background trees

I found your picture very moving. Your depiction of the forest burning is as terrifying as the photos I’ve seen in the news over recent weeks. You have really achieved something remarkable in this painting.
Wishing you & your neighbours all the best, stay safe.

I totally understand you with your motivation to let it out. I had the same about Corona.

Your painting is fantastic! I think it depicts the horror. I hope you are morally fine. It is a lot to process with those fires.

Wow! This is fantastic! As a Central California resident myself, I can really "feel" this painting. There were about three weeks there where it felt as if I would never see the sun again because the air quality was so bad. Now the newest North Coast fires have caused several of my friends to evacuate and the air quality is bad again. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Your color choices work beautifully together but the subject matter is sad indeed.

This is beautiful. Beautifully executed. The colors are so fitting with eachother. I really really reallu love this!

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

A super painting, not only by execution but also the story behind it!
This painting feels so vivid! The reflection even makes the water burning!

Stay safe, from bush fires and Corona, and keep dazzling us with artistic beauty!
