Original Creation

A rainy afternoon (inspired by Leonid Afremov "rainy afternoon")

flippergirlpaints 27 Jun 2024

I really love Afremov's works and his effortless command of the palette knife. I have some smaller paintings that either did not turn out very well, or just did not sell after a few art fairs, and my "makeover" of them is to do a knife painting right over top of them. It gives me a great textured base to work with and the existing "background" colors are like an underpainting that shows through in places. I use some of his paintings as a reference in composition and color (I do not try to copy his style exactly). And - voila! a brand new painting πŸͺ„

Great idea Pam and this one is beautiful!πŸ‘βœŒοΈ

That's a great idea, I've got plenty that I'm not satisfied with. You did a great job, I really like how it turned out.

Wow. That's great.

Yes, very nice

Very nice Pam especially those colored leaves and I want to mention that also Bob has done such a painting over an existing ('failed') one to show how to do that and it is called, you can guess: Happy Accident (S11E13).

Great work,PamπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

Flippergirl, you've inspired me to revisit one of mine that I dislike. I'm not intending to do a knife painting though, I'll do roughly the same painting over the top of it but hopefully better. A thin coat of liquid white to start with and see if I can get away with it. I've got nothing to lose. It's good to try different things and hopefully make some progress.

Wow beautiful!!

Love this one! Looks so great!

Looking really good. <3

I also looked up Leonid Afremov and I very much like what he does. <3

Thank you so much everyone for such great compliments!
@TLP - If I go over a painting wanting to start with a fresh slate for my liquid white, I do give the canvas a sanding down before hand. I know it is not recommended, but those pieces are not going in a museum any time soon LOL! But oil over oil - again and again as long as it is dry.

This is art!!! By that I mean it looks amazing and expensive. Love this compo a lot Pam! Great colors too! It's different and refreshing.

Thanks flippergirl. I won't have to do much sanding, I tend to not to use much paint generally. I've re-started a wet one before, I found wiping it off left an interesting stain to use as a background. I haven't restarted a dry one yet but I'm happy to give it go and see what happens.
Haha museum - mine are lucky if they end up on my own wall. I do gift some of mine to friends and family and it makes them laugh when I say to them "when I'm dead you can tell people you knew me before I was famous" lol.

Agree with Nancy--it looks expensive! And stylish.
