Practicing Perspective:
My main goal with this 'practice painting' was mainly to test painting techniques on a moderate sized house and practice a few other techniques in the process.
I started out by doing a quick pencil sketch of the house on a primed canvas and then outlining the house with a black sharpie. Then I applied liquid white and proceeded to paint. Now I had absolutely no idea what the scene was going to look like beforehand, and I ended up composing the painting as I went. I tried a couple different things on my foot hills and I really wanted to practice making the boughs on my evergreens look a bit more realistic by balancing my lights and darks a bit better. I also like the fence and the taller grasses in the front.
I really thought about it for a while before adding the big birch tree. I did not want the leaves to obliterate the foliage behind, so I opted for an almost dead birch that has very little foliage in it's old age. My path needs more detail, which I will add. Funny how I did not notice that until after I took the pictures.
If I had a do over, I would make my open land have more of a rolling hills effect as opposed to an open flattish meadow effect. I am not entirely happy with the placement of my color shrubs, they look a bit hokey.
As usual photo does not do the painting justice. 18" x 24" canvas. As always, your comments (especially suggestions) are desired and welcome.
Very nice composition as well as painting.
