I really like the tutorials by Buck. They are different and put me out of my comfort zone.
I fell in love with that scene right from the beginning as it has a lot of light and dark contrast. And it has a lot of feeling with the mum and daughter waiting for the arrival of that sail boat. But it doesn’t look like kitsch tough.
The painting was done on black canvas. It was the first time I painted people with oils (I find that much easier with watercolors) and this made the painting a real challenge for me. Especially the hair (my nickname is Kojak, so you can imagine my knowledge about hair, lol) gave me a lot of trouble.
However I am proud to have it finished even it didn’t feel good during the process.
If you want, can you guys do me a favor? Can you tell me how your eyes travel during the painting?

It is hard to capture a good photo as the painting is quite dark (I like dark paintings) but I can add a second (manipulated picture) which is more light.
It is oils on black canvas panel 20 x 28 in (50 x 70 cm)
I see the girl first then clockwise to the light in the sky and then the boat Tom. Beautiful work and I love the contrast!
