Acrylics. I was inspired by Christmas card. I reworked it to fit my abilities and decided to train my eyes to see value, thus black and white.
I certainly have a problem with value.
Hey sunnylady , very nice painting . Good work 👍🏼
Hi RosoLima! Glad to have you back! Yep, life is life and time to time priorities get adjusted. I have not painted for 5 months since when I had a painting spree for baby shower giveaways. I am very happy I could paint today!
Thanks Dirk!
I am not sure why you think you have a problem with value. It is perfect.
You made a great painting!
@Tom, I did first approach which I thought was good. Then I showed to my husband. He said I messed up the value. I fixed based on his comments. It became much better. Those last changes took quite a lot of time if not 30% of time.
I need to remember squinting my eyes. It is so easy to forget when I paint so up close for an hour or so.
@Tom, I attached the photo where I thought I was done.
Ok there is a difference and a slight improvement as well, but basically I see nothing wrong in the first version.
I think sometimes we are just about to make everything perfect. I somehow changed my mind recently after I spoke to a professional artist, who told me not to take things too serious (e.g. trying to be photo realistic) as painting might be not funny any more. Especially as an amateur I think this helped me a lot to find more joy in painting again.
Great advice! I hope you don’t mind I use it too. 😊
this is lovely! so peaceful
Thank you Shadowlink.
This is wonderful! Really well done and creative. I especially like the lamp posts and bench. Your trees have a lot of character. Nicely done :)
Thank you Happyisland! Maybe too much character in my trees. I never can paint a delicate tree like a birch or willow even I grew up in the area with a lot of them. I wanted to have more delicate trees in this painting but they came out like 100year oaks.
Sunnylady, if I may be so bold…let the painting you do speak for itself. It tells a story. You might not have done things to your liking in an area but here is what I see (if it helps). The foremost oak tree, the very unique looking bench and the secondary light posts tell a story. A bench where perhaps two lifelong friends meet daily or have over many years. Perhaps one passed away and the scene reminds the viewer of that bond. That’s one story. Another is perhaps a place where a couple met and fell in love (sitting under their favorite tree). And of course I’m reminded of a scene from the tv series “Turn”, where a couple remark “Why do you suppose that trysts are always held under a tree? It was good enough for Adam and Eve. It was good enough for us.”
The point is each element of a painting can tell a story to the viewer that hits them uniquely.
Your painting is very well done
I totally love what you said!
Every one will have their own story and feelings when looking at painting. I am always very happy to hear if someone tells if any feelings appeared when looking at my paintings.
I had a very romantic feeling while painting this one and I miss snow. So probably this is what you also felt and created your wonderful stories!
Thank you for that!
My pleasure :) you are a fantastic artist.

Hi Sunnylady! I hope you're well! Gosh, I haven't been on this site in probably six months as life keeps getting in the way. How happy I am to see one of your paintings at the top of the page. This is beautiful. You have done an amazing job on the distance of the path and the depth of the snow. And the bench! Wow. Great job.
