My husband and I came across Bob Ross on Netflix a few years ago. We would watch and one by one, the four kids would trickle in and join us, completely mesmerized.
When everything shut down due to the pandemic, I thought it would be a great opportunity for all the kids to paint. It looked so easy! LOL So I bought all the supplies needed for our large family (read $$$). A couple of the kids tried it, but lost interest as the pandemic raged on and they retreated to their rooms with their devices. Sigh.
But I kept going. I found myself loving the challenge and weirdly, the smell of the paint! With no formal training I think my work isn't too bad. I am a bit of a perfectionist so that is why I choose to do several paintings again and again. Challenging myself to try to recall the process and details without watching BR's video. Family keeps encouraging me to try doing my own subjects, but with no formal training or understanding of all things oil painting, I find it quite difficult.
While sometimes it is frustrating when things don't happen the way I want them to on the canvas, painting in Southern California on a sunny afternoon with a glass of wine is quite wonderful. And finding and being a part of this twoinchbrush community has been really fun and I have enjoyed it very much. I only wish my sweet father that passed away a couple years ago, and an artist at heart, could see all of this. He would be so thrilled.
