Golden Hilltop Gristmill β€’ NTZ

Ninoum 13 Oct 2024

I was scratching my head on what to paint. It had to be very different than my usual scene. Titia came in my mind for some reasons, and a lightbulb came on… a Dutch windmill. Titia, I dedicate this one to you. Thank you for all the beauty and talent you bring to your TIB fam! 🫢🏼

There were different kind of Dutch windmills built back in the days. This one was used for grinding grains and other crops. Titia can maybe elaborate on those. It’s exiting to learn new type of buildings.

The colors on the picture are not exactly like the real painting. Also, the mist is less white and the fog on the left side of the mill doesn’t have that blueish/greenish hue either.

This one brought a lot of excitement in my heart while making it. πŸ₯°

Thanks Jessie! I thought it'd be cool to try a windmill. Glad you approve! πŸ˜ƒ

Thank you very much Sandy. πŸ€—

Thank you bunchy my super friend! So happy you like! πŸ₯°

Awww, thanks! ❀️

I love the atmosphere in this painting and the mill is very well done.

As for types of windmills, you made me google them. πŸ˜‚
This one looks like a "grondzeiler" or a "beltmolen". Both of those have the blades mounted onto a sort of tower structure, without a balcony going around.
I'm not an expert so I could be wrong. Jos might know more about them?
Mills were used for different things, like grinding grains, sawing wood, water pumping and probably some other uses that I can't think of right now.

Most of the remaining mills can still be used and are mostly run my volunterrs nowadays.
There is a grain mill in the town I work in and they used to sell bread there, made with flower grinded in that mill.
When it runs it has all these sounds of wood creaking, banging and such.
And beware of the blades! They go fast!

I'm guessing you used a photograph as reference?
Did it say where it was taken or did it say the name of the mill?
I'm now curious to know what type of mill it is, whether or not I got it right. πŸ˜‚

Stunning sky and the beautiful windmill too! Love the black bare tree against the golden grass! Tops N! ✌️

Simply gorgeous!

Thank you so much for all that info Titia! Even if you didn't know much about them, you knew more than me. So interesting to hear about the sounds that it makes when it's an action. I'd love to visit one someday!
I did inspire myself from a picture. It said it was an old Dutch Mill in Lativa. Nothing about the name of the mill. But when I researched it, it seems to be a grain mill.

B!!! Thank you bunches my friend! Super glad you like my compo! πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Thank you super much Kerri! πŸ€—

Great job. I love that mill and especially the wings of it.

Very nice mill (and sky); can't remember if I ever painted a Dutch mill hahaha (did it very recent, but not as great and detailed as this one), but can't tell anyting more about mills as in the remarks already is done!

great original design! Funny how our cameras can alter the true appearance of all of our work.

Many thanks Jeff! 😊 I took a new picture of the compo recently with more success. I added it on here. It now looks just like the real deal.

Thank you for your nice words Colin! πŸ₯°

Glad you like them Regan! πŸ˜ƒ Thank you so much!!

I am amazed at how beautiful and how close to the photos you have captured this work! As a beginner, I just slap paint on the canvas and my paintings don;t even come close to looking like photos but I am just enthralled at the talent that I see on these pages and on this community. Keep up the great work...you all have my great admiration!

This is such a beautiful comment John! I too was a beginner few years ago. I just love painting so much that putting time, effort and doing workshops was actually a lot of fun. I am now able to do anything I want. I still love to take my sweet time while making a compo since I am the happiest when I paint. Lol! Thank you again! And keep bringing your art to us. Looking forward to seeing you next one!
