I had watched a couple of Bob Ross episodes that really spoke to me . . . the sky of one, the mountains and lake of another. Inspired by them, but also wanting to do something original, I painted this. I eventually used this as a cover for a novel set in prehistoric times that I wrote in 2020.
Thank you! Did you see that saber tooth in that cave? This painting was a challenge for me. I don't paint as often as I should to hone some skills. I scraped that rock on the left off 3 times before I was happy with it.
Yes I noticed. It's a great detail. And it's notable that you put a lot of effort in this painting. It's got great details and really a lot of amazing little things to look at.
If only I had stuck a little Pleistocene dude in it. And who knows, I may yet? I had the thought, to make it more interesting, to put a prehistoric hunter walking up from the lake, carrying his spear, walking into a deadly predicament. Thanks so much for your comments! I did struggle with this one, and wondered if i'd finish it or not. I'm glad I stuck with it.
I also sometimes just want to throw the canvas away, but in general things come together in the end, so I think it's a good idea to just try to go on.
Wow, the colours are just perfect for me! Love how that orange and blue come back in the mountain. And is that a skull in the bottom left? Haha great!
Yeah! Big old mammoth skull! The setting I went for was prehistoric, so there's also a saber-tooth cat in the cave! He just has his paw stuck out. If you go to this site, you can see the full-size image (3015 x 3814px). And thanks! I was happy with the sky and mountain colors.

Ohhh. I really like the ominous cave, and how you can see the critter poking it's head out.
That skull looks fantastic!
Added an image of the book cover I used this painting on. Fun story about a prehistoric hunter who meets a super-intelligent human-like alien from another planet. I'm already planning a second volume and wondering what I'll paint for the next one!
