My take on this episode limited pallette, Thalo blue, alizarin crimson, Thalo yellow green, white. Pallette knife.
I really like the marbling effect you have in the water! I love using a limited palette. While I like Bob’s pigment choices, I often feel like he used too many colors. I recently watched one of the first episodes of the show and he only used 8 colors and wished he had stuck with the 8-color palette! I’m just curious, when you’re painting BR with a palette knife, do you “layer” your paints the way he does, just with a knife?
I do layer my painting. Darks or middle tones. Then if I need more shadow or light. I like how you paint direct. Most of my work is "scumbling" just like bob does his mountains. I use the technique for my light and shadow.
What I like about using a knife is that it seems easier to layer colors without mud-mixing. Obviously you lose some of the signature brush effects that Bob did, but I like that the knife can create a different (but still satisfying) effect without having to thin the paint for highlights.
