Still confused by thin on thick or thick on thin?
Anyway I used leftover magic white on the bark highlights and that worked great so I did the same for the snow.
For the snow path and the snow around the lake? No idea how bob did that , I had to glob it on and didnt like the way that looked so I took it off with the palette knife and blended it more cleanly with the lake

Thin paint will stick to thick paint, so the first layers have to be really thick and then the later layers are thinned with liquid white or paint thinner. If instead of putting paint on the canvas you are actually taking it off with your brush, you need to thin it.
