Keep up the good work, its getting there! This very much reminds me of when I first started painting, I swear we might have even used the same brand of paint. If you're finding trouble with getting snow to break on the mountains you might be using too thin of a paint.
When I started painting, I used Masters Touch (hobby lobby's in house brand) for my first year and a half, and not one painting ever turned out halfway decent! It turns out that brand of paint is ridiculously cheap & especially thin, which makes it a horrible choice for those initial base layers of colour *thin paint sticks to thick paint*
Once I upgraded my brushes and paint, Bob Ross brand all the way, it made ALL the difference.
If the paint is the issue and you're not in a position to be able to obtain a thicker, higher quality pigment, I have a very useful little trick:
Take a piece of cardboard and put some paint on it, spread it over the cardboard because that's going to soak up extra oil thats in the paint, thus leaving you with thicker paint. And depending how oily the paint is let it sit up to 15, 20, even 30 minutes.
I still have one of those early paintings, just so I can see how much progress I've made over the years. I'll post it here if you would like to compare any similarities LOL keep it up and happy painting my friend
