On 24x30 cm winton/vangogh oil, was Bob using liquid clear for setting up the background colour? In the sky he uses liquid white on the yellow part, but for the red he doesn't say anything about liquid clear or white?
Thanks Voy for your comment. Did not use any clear for the sky, but putting paint on black gesso is a hard job without clear, so used a little bit for the lower part of this nice painting with amazing colours.
A little could've helped. You also could mix the background colours with some liquid clear and that will also apply much more smoothly. Bob does that in several of his creations, to avoid use too much paint thinner.

Bob doesn't mention the use of liquid clear at all here, that is true. I've painted this last October and did use a little (really a little!!) liquid clear since that will make applying the background colours more easily. It will have no effect on the use if liquid white on the top colours afterwards.
Concerning that liquid white, Bob starts in the yellow area and slowly gets some of that blended out in the red area as well.
