This is my 39th painting and the 3rd in an impromptu three painting painting spree this weekend. This also isn't really an attempt at Mountain Beauty as I pretty much improvised this one to use up the leftover color on my canvas. I had lots of autumn colors left over and, since that worked so well on my previous one, I wanted to do an autumn themed painting. I find that my highlights didn't stick as well on this one compared to the other painting. Funny because the highlights came from the same exact pile of paint. I think adding highlights to a painting with liquid white as the medium is a bit more difficult than adding highlights to a painting with liquid clear + a transparent color. Thin sticks to thick, right? Too much liquid white = the whole thing is too thin. I might experiment a bit with gesso'ing less and adding a bit less liquid white, or just trying liquid clear more frequently. 18x24
I do the finger print trick as well and it usually is enough to gauge. However, I did just buy a new gesso and I am gesso'ing a cheaper value canvas that is supposedly gesso-primed by weight, but it doesn't indicate how much. With the liquid clear, I always wipe with a paper towel. I'll try that with the liquid white next time.
You did a very beutiful mountain .
It must be better to make a mist on the foothill of mountain and
it will give this more depth.
The background trees could use some trunks like stick like using the knife to create them, i agree about the mist at the base and the white. Overall i think good job

The happy clouds and that frigid mountain with its spooky pattern really catch my eye!
It is true that a too thick layer of liquid white, and even liquid clear, make it hard(er) to put the next layer on. Bob usually wipes (gently!) the canvas with kitchen paper after applying the liquid clear and it's my experience that it really helps! What is too much will come off with the paper.
Dana Jester has another trick where he puts his finger on the just applied liquid white and if you can still see the fingerprints, the amount is good! ARTISTS!!! :) :)
