"Reflections of Calm"
March 2, 2025
Oil on canvas
60x40 cm
As it often happens: I do not plan to paint anything during the weekend, I watch the Bob Ross weekend marathon on Twitch and get itching fingers. And end up painting anyway.
This time I ended up making "Reflections of Calm".
Bob has done, as far as I know, two paintings where he also paints the mountain reflections.
The other one, "Mirrored Images S24E06, has smooth distant hills.
I decided to go with this one so I could practice "palette knife mountains" again.
The foreground stones were made using a double-loaded 1-inch oval brush.
I love adding bark with the knife, so I gave the tree trunk a bit more details with it.
The sky colour is mostly Cobalt Blue. I prefer using that over the usual Phtalo Blue. Cobalt Blue is a bit warmer.
It was a fun afternoon painting this one.
And yes... I did put the canvas upside down when painting the general shape of the reflections. π€£
Not sure if it helped though... π€£
Beautiful mountains and I do think your rocks using the oval were a great success.
Thanks Pietro. β€οΈ
Thank you TheLandscapePainter! β€οΈ
It was a nice thing trying them with the large brush. I had done stones like that before with the filbert brush. So when I saw Bob doing these with the oval I thought I'd give it a try. It was pretty much my bravery test here. LOL!
Super work ππΌπ©πͺ
Love this!
I think the reflections look amazing! But the right side is where I believe it really shines, the amount of detail is crazy! I love it!
