The Old Weathered Barn

Tom0779 25 Sep 2024

My painting from previous Sunday.
I was surprised that this beautiful scene hasn’t been painted more often yet. I think it is really an eye catcher and relatively easy to do. Maybe the acrylic preparation holds off a lot of people, but you can do that very easily.
The only challenge here is the barn, especially if you want to do that „projection“ on the front of the roof, how Bob called it. Even I don’t think I did understand it fully, I made a try and it really gives that barn something special.
As normal I made the grass more rough looking than Bob. I like it better that way.
It is tough to get a bit of depth in this scenario, so I thought using a bit of white in the center to make it look like sun is shining through might help. Also to use different variations of brightness in the acrylic underpainting helps here.
As said a nice and very fast to finish episode (oil painting part took me a bit over 70 minutes) which is definitely worth to try it.
I plan already new pictures for upcoming weekend.
This is oils on canvas panel 20 x 16 inches (50 x 40 cm)
