Mystic Mountain

Tom0779 18 Sep 2024

This is painting 2 of 3 I did previous weekend.
Normally I have no problems to paint Bob episodes using just the book instructions. Here I have to say that I did not really understand the clouds he created, then I watched the TV version and I have to say even there I did neither understand nor like them. So I made the clouds like I learned to make them from Bill.
Also for the large evergreens I used the 1 inch (Bob uses the 2-inch here) brush as normal. Background evergreens were made with the fan brush as the bigger brushes seem to not fit for this format any more.
A typical Bob episode with the mountain, the evergreens and the lake. I think you can find at least 70 episodes which are very similar to that one. But they always look nice and are quite easy to make.
It is oils on canvas panel 20 x 16 inches (50 x 40 cm)

!I uploaded this for a second time as the first picture was a bit dark!

Super gemalt Tom. Tolle Technik. Großartig 👍🏼🇩🇪

Such a beauty again Tom!

I love the misty effect. This is really nice.

A beauty Tom!!

This looks like a person could step into the scene. Beautiful work Tom ✌️

I haven't seen the video or the book but I can see from Bob's picture that your clouds are much more to my cup of tea, they appear to have been done with great care and I love how you have left the edges of clouds sort of dappled but not blended away. I sometimes think the big brush is more for speed than anything else. I also like the lacey effect you've created on your trees. Very nice. That spot of bright blue centre front is very eye catching too!

Stunning work Tom!

Beautiful as always Tom.

Very rich flavorful delightful painting Tom! For some reason I feel like going fishing 🤔

awesome

The depth in this painting in amazing. Excellent.

Danke Dirk, grüße nach DE!

Thank you Jos, I am glad you like it.

Thank you Bob!

Thanks a lot Pietro!

Thanks Brian for your continued support!

Thank you Landscapepainter for your detailed feedback. It is no secret that I really like the approach Bill Alexander uses, so I have a lot of influences from him in my other paintings as well. The clouds are a typical example here, Bill creates them with a fan brush and so do I. Also the foliage on the trees and bushes are done with his technique rather than Bobs.

Many thanks Sandy.

Thanks Cold as always.

Thank you David. Indeed seems a good place to go fishing :)

Thank you Jeff, glad you like it!

Many thanks Colin!

Thank you Tom for the
insight. I've learned that you have to try different things otherwise you don't progress. Right now I'm enjoying the work Nic Hankins is putting out there, but I've been meaning to check out Bill for some time, and I must do that soon.

Absolutely beautiful, I really like what you've done with the clouds.

Amazing Tom! 😍

Definitely agree with you Landscapepainter. Everyone has to find his own way or at least has to find a style/method or whatever which fits him best. I learned that Bills approach fits me the best. I have only limited time to paint but I aim to do a lot of pictures. For this the way Bill paints is perfect for me, it is much faster than others I have seen and it is more loose.
Others might not like this approach. E.g. people who prefer Kevin Hill for sure have other goals. However it is an individual thing.

Thank you Debbie, glad you like it.

Many thanks Nancy!
