I am not particularly fond of this one mainly because of the bleeding colors and my knife work kind of sucked. However it has been a year and a half at least since I last painted so I might be just a little bit out of practice.
I enjoy the almost prehistoric mood of this painting. To me, it feels humid and atmospheric in a bygone age of dinosaurs! I think the thick brushwork accentuates this feeling as well. Nice job!
It can be daunting, your first painting after a long break. You did it, keep going.
I actually was going for a thick brushwork look. And the water was meant to evoke more of a rapids vibe before the waterfall into a more peaceful pool. The biggest gripe I have is the “heavy handedness” of the tree barks. I probably chose a difficult painting for my first one back from hiatus but this one i liked because i really enjoy the more brown look and is meant to go to a friend who has light taupe walls to, as the Dude puts it, “tie the room together” 😬
Very moody!
