11" x 14" oil on canvas. Number 100 since beginning this journey in Jan '23! I dug out the long-avoided "blender" brush for the sky and gained a little more comfort with that tool. Thanks for taking a look!
Great painting. Love it.
Nice mountains and colors, maybe you could blend the upper side of the clouds a little bit more, but there is the risk to overwork them?
Great job. I personally like the roughness of the sky.
Great job, I love the soft colors in your active sky
Thanks, everyone! Jos, I agree that the comp might benefit from some additional softening of the cloud uppers. However, I felt clumsy with the blender and opted to leave in some sharpness.
What a beautiful 'lil gem! The colors work so so well here! Great work Jon
I just read what Jos wrote about your clouds and saw what you replied. Clouds can def have some sharpness. But here's some little tips if I may (you prob have heard it before but a friendly refresher can help).
You only blend what is below your top edge. Leave that top edge as crisp as possible. In your painting, it looks like the upward streaky effect of your purple clouds happened when you "hypnotized" to soften your clouds at the end. You have to use an upward circular motion (which I can see in your composition, but I do this in both directions and even go right to left & vise-versa, to avoid any streaks) and barely touch your canvas. If you do 10 brush strokes, maybe 3 will actually have touched lightly the canvas. Hope this help. Never hesitate to reach out if you have questions! 😃
Nancy: Many thanks for your always-welcome tips! I didn't realize just how pointy I had left those cloud tops until after seeing everyone's comments. This one (or something like it) will be worth revisiting someday. I thought the colors were a bit washed out versus expectation; I may try a liquid clear version.
Great work! I particularly like the foreground detail.
Thanks, NBH!
