The Old Oak Tree

TitiaD 10 Mar 2024

"Old Oak"
February 24, 2024
Oil on canvas
40x60 cm

So, I wanted to paint "The Old Oak Tree" by Bob Ross (S20 E08).
But then I found this photograph on the internet and, when mirrored, it had a similar composition as Bob's painting.
Since I liked the lighting in the photograph I decided to use the photograph as a base, but I did add the path like in Bob's painting.

I only used the paint-knife for this painting.

The peachy sort of colour in the background is simply Burnt Sienna and white mixed.

This painting has become quite special to me now because I started it on the morning of my grandfather's funeral.
He loved nature and would have loved to take a walk here.
I like to think he already went ahead on the path to see what's around the corner.

Love this! Absolutely beautiful :)

Thank you all. <3

Love the picture and your inspiration!

Very impressive. Well done.

Beautiful and only with the knife, unbelievable!

I would not have guessed this was knife-only. this is quite inspiring. so beautiful; thank you for sharing the story as well.

Thank you everyone. <3

On a side-note, the painting is more radiant in real, especially the parts where the sun hits the leafs. Those colours are brighter yellow/green.
So hard to get the colours right in a photograph. :(

Beautifully done, my first thought before reading your comments was that it's a very peaceful scene. Definitely a painting to be cherished.
