I decide to paint “Autumn Glory” since it’s the painting featured in my BR calendar this month. I really enjoyed doing this one.
I am happy about my sky/clouds and mountain. I know the trick to make the mountains effortless! Thank you to Kevin Hill. He disclosed how to hold the knife from the top of the mountain to the bottom of it. I always struggled. Not anymore!
Thank you so much B! I really enjoyed that part of the painting!! Details are always my fav part to paint!
Very nice. Maybe you can go more to detail how Kevin does his mountains? That would interest me.
Good Morning Nancy , super work, greetimgs from Germany 👍🏼🇩🇪
Thx Tom. The way that Kevin does his mountains now doesn’t involve the knife. But when he started, he was doing all of his compo BR style. I saw a video of his where he comments on one of his first tutorials. And that’s when he revealed the trick (See pictures for a better understanding).
1) Get your little roll of paint on the knife
2) To apply the paint uniformly and so it breaks, hold the knife at around 45 degrees and not as picture #2 (the paint will be too thick at the top of the mountain and you won’t have enough to run the paint all the way down) and no pressure as Bob says all the time.
3) as you slide the knife down the mountain, start narrowing the angle of the knife towards the canvas… meaning the knife becomes almost flat to the canvas at the end of that knife stroke. Picture #2).
It makes a very easy snowed mountain peak and slope. The reason why we don’t see it on camera is that there is no good reason to have a camera angle that shows the side of the canvas (unless it’s for a tutorial on exactly what I just explained above).
I hope I was able to explain and illustrate that trick in a comprehensible way. Let me know if you have any confusion.
Thank you my friend! 🇩🇪 Greetings from Florida! 🌴☀️🌊
