Simple painting here, once the mountain is complete.
That said, this is a more complex mountain than I had ever tried before, so I practiced it maybe 15 times before attempting this painting. I felt good about it, but on the night of the painting, my focus just wasn’t as sharp as I’d hoped, and I wasn’t terribly pleased with how it had turned out. The mountain itself took me 2.5 hours. Still running at about 5 hours painting time to complete a full composition.
I also had several “life” breaks I needed to take during this one, which made keeping my creative momentum challenging. But it was a good learning experience in how I can do that and still come back to finish later.
I’m pleased with my foothills, reflections and front grassy areas (those add so much and took surprisingly little time). And I like that this one has a nice springtime feel to it, because I haven’t painted many like that.
I’m a bit disappointed in my clouds, mountain, and trees. I enjoyed the colors in this one though, and really like the idea of this type of steep mountain. Give it a try!
Oils, 18x24
Thank you Matt! I thought of our earlier discussion when I had to leave it for a bit and come back later. Worked out just fine!
And this is a challenging first mountain in my opinion! Nice!
Yea I was surprised mine turned out so well
Very nice and great job on the mountain!
Thank you. The deep shadowy areas on the left and right sides of the mountain actually make me happy. It’s surprising how the shadows seem to be so strange and insignificant until the end, when viewed from a distance.
Very pretty sky!

I like it! This was my first mountain painting of Bob's I did.
