Bob doesn’t mention anything about liquid clear over the black gesso. He only mentions crimson and blue. I thought that might still end up with a sticky canvas so I went ahead and covered it with liquid clear before putting the Crimson and blue on it. Things seemed to go well. Just a suggestion
