Inspired by some internet images. I used a different method for leaves.. I used a natural sponge and my liner brush to dot in some highlights. The trees were done with paint thinned with linseed oil. I like it much better than using thinner or liquid white for this type of work.
Amazing effect! Well done!
Oil gives better sliding capacity than the thinner and i find works way better when i need to apply thin lines to already thick layer of paint. Solvent cuts through it. Only problem with oil, that for the highlights on the trunks still oil will need to be used. This way it is more delicate than a knife.
Also when too much solvent pigment separates as powder. So trick might be a mix of both things if thin lines are needed. But as closer you are to the background layer, more solvent for the thin lines, it will into prevent top layers of paint sliding out and making mud in the highlights of the top layers.
The distance you created in this painting by having greenish gray at the background works awesome and increases the contrast to the red leaves.
