I had planned on trying my own original composition with a mountain and several layers of trees in front and a small stream in the foreground. Mistake number one. I couldn’t even get the sky in before calamity and mud mixing began. Tried to salvage it by doing something I felt worked with a “Mushy Pea Green” color all over the canvas. Mistake number two. I think there are a couple of twigs that look really nice. The rest, garbage. But hey, I proved to myself that I can make a mistake and then continue to make even bigger, better mistakes.
I think it came out really pretty, I like your twigs and your trees and the way the lay of the land came out.
Vietti, beautiful colouration, and great use of the oval shaped canvas. Cheers
If someone gave me this painting i would be thrilled. Here are the positives i see: The green background leading deeper into the trees is fantastic. I'd kill to have it look so faded and misty in my works lol. The pink/white foliage was a good choice and makes it look so delicate. If you want a bit of a fix, put some bushes or another layer of grass/foreground right at the bottom and it should help with the perspective and depth. Can also go over some parts with some dark color and then highlight again. You will be amazed at how many paintings i have saved after doing too much highlighting by just adding some of the dark back. Makes it look much more complex with very little effort on your part
I have had the same feeling as your title lol! It did turn out pretty and I would not have guessed you had such struggles.
Really nice.....but if i had one criticism it's the stream, it looks better if it gets wider the closer it gets to the viewer, here it narrows instead.
We are our own worse critic! This is a beautiful painting Vietti! Your creation makes me think of a couple ones from Bob: Forest Down Oval and Misty Forest Oval. They are both on my top 10. Fantastic job. Specially with the struggle you went thru (we can’t tell for one bit!).
I really like this Vietti, don't be to harsh on yourself, the sky is awesome and the big trees sparkle. Some of my best paintings, especially sky's, have been from disasters, I learnt this by accident a while ago, I failed miserably on one particular mountain scene, scraped the canvas and just saw this image appear that I used to create a stormy sky. I say, if you don't like something, with oils, you can just scrape it off and start again and sometimes something magical appears from the nightmare, try one, one day, just scrape the canvas and then stand and look, you will be amazed at what you find hidden in that problem. For the record, I think this painting is lovely 👍🖖
I'm with everyone else, it's really pretty. Ha e a look at some of my early stuff and you'll see this differently.
