Actually happy with my brush technique on most of these highlights if you look closely, but when aiming for an autumn scene I just really couldn’t get a single color to pop. Believe it or not, every tree, bush, branch and patch of grass was mixed as a different color on my palette. I promise.
Oh and I think your painting is beautiful!
Beautiful picture and the colors are very realistic imo!
Very good painting.
It's beautiful and love the colors!
I love your autumn scene Vietti! Your colors are great. They look very natural! Your brush highlight technique is on point.
To add on to the tricks to make your colors pop more... Once I but my dark background base color, I lay shop towels on that dark part for 5-10 minutes. That will remove a lot of the excess paint and oil. When you apply your colors, they will stick very well and they should pop beautifully. You may have to clean the tip of your brush here and there (with a paper towel) if a little of dark paint gets onto your brush. You won't need as much paint to get a better result as well. Hope this helps. 😊

I have this problem sometimes too. A couple things I’ve found helpful. First, the base coat needs to be really thick. Sometimes I dry the paint on a piece of cardboard first. Second, if you can’t get the highlight to stick and you’ve thinned the paint as far as you can, take a break and let the painting dry for a few days. Then come back and try the highlights again. I’ve fixed a few paintings this way.
