I decided to make some pet portraits allá prima yesterday so I could practice doing them faster with a little different style than what I have been doing. They don’t seem as vibrant as when I do layers but they still look good in a different way.

I think alla prima gives them a bit more life, like they are captured in the moment and not polished but just real pets as they are. Nothing bad with layers at all, it is just alla prima gives them a different mood. Which style gives you more joy to paint?

Thanks! Sunnylady I would say that I enjoy doing the alla prima more because to me it’s more fun and I like the result. The more “messy” look appeals to me. At least for now haha.
