Experimenting with light inside of a lodge. Also, wanted to project the Northern Rocky Mountains in the background. Used black gesso to outline the mountains. Used van dyke brown with liquid clear on the bottom 1/3rd. Alizarin red with liquid clear in a band above the Rockies. The top 1/4 is phthalo blue with liquid clear. The light is cad yellow. The teepee skins are Indian yellow.
Based on the attached photo taken in 1880 on what became our ranch in 1913..
Cool idea, I like the color palette๐๐ผ๐ฉ๐ช
Very cool! Love the scene..
So, my Native friends back home pointed out a couple things. First, my door doesn't align correctly with the smoke flaps. Second, that my lodges are two skinny. The bottom of the triangle should be about an inch wider so that there is almost a perfect equilateral triangle. Third that inside of a teepee there is a liner than hangs from about 1/2 way down inside that would block a lot of the light and only the top 1/3 would be bright. The very top third looks good because the canvas/hide covering is darked by wood smoke.
Love the color selections rpt!
Well painted Bob, cheers.
