Traditionally, the Blackfeet would paint a portion of a Buffalo hide to create a mask and imitate the animal during dance ceremonies.
I tried to simulate a Buffalo hide using 20” x 24” painting paper with yellow ochre and then I just tried to create the impression of a Buffalo.
Note: my uncle Neil Tall Eagle Parsons painted a series of these. They’re on permanent display in the Blackfeet collection in the Smithsonian. I see the Buffalo Bill Cody museum is currently displaying them.
Very interesting. Nice work.
Very cool Bob. I googled your uncle and read a bit about him also :)
When I was a kid, I’d watch him paint in the upstairs bedrooms of my grandma’s house. I was fascinated but never allowed to touch anything. I never picked up a brush until I was 55.
Super nice Bob! Great creation!
Really creative, very well done :)
