Day After Valentine’s Day

After finishing up a good chunk of my commissions, I finally decided to give florals a real try! I have a commission lined up specifically with flowers but I didn’t have experience with them, so this was my first real attempt at a whole composition :) i only had a black canvas left, but it think that was for the best since the colors really pop in this one. This scene is directly inspired by a painting Nic Hankins did on his twitch channel a few years ago. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of floral videos from BRI on YouTube (the most you’ll find are Lowell Speers videos which are not bad actually), so I had to do this one completely from reference and figure it out as I did it lol. For anyone doing the type of landscape painting I do, these florals are a great next step. Really good way to learn about color and value. Keep an eye out for more of these!
