I've started to draw with charcoal pencils, which has been a blast. I love the effects you can achieve with shading. This is a variation of a Van Gogh painting.
Thank you. It was a lot of fun to do.
Sunnylady-- I have to apologize, I hadn't taken a very thorough look at your work until recently. I admire your versatility in a wide range of styles and mediums. Are you a professional?
@Parksd02: no need to apologize at all. There are so many artists here and everyone has something unique about their works! It takes time to meet all people here. Once Felix mentioned it was 2000 users here.
I am not a professional at all. I am a beginner. I have always loved visual art. With Corona quarantine there was period when I ran out of canvas so I used everything what was available. It gave me opportunity to try water colors in adult age. Pencil: I attended community classes. I also took Landscape class with distance learning. I tried to paint along with minimum 4 different online hosts.
I read book about composition and with advice from Dracula bought the book about color, plan to read it. I found another big book Art and Visual perception. I try to practice what I read or watch. It gives wonderful learning and allows to understand myself and what I like.
Also museums are great source of inspiration and painting techniques. If Art museums in your city are opened go there. I will tell that after almost one year painting with oils museum art works open their secrets to the viewer better and serve such a great source of inspiration.
That's wonderful to hear, and it's good to hear that you are making the best of it with the quarantine. I love your story. And yes, you are right about inspiration from museums. I have one here where I live, and do my best (well, I did--pre-quarantine) to visit it at least three to four times per year. Where else can I see a Rembrandt, a Monet, and a Renoir for free? :) Truthfully, I am a bank manager. I hold a master's degree in music, but went into banking when I decided that being an opera singer was not the life I truly wanted. I painted in jr. high 30 years ago, and only took it up again in 2018 when I got the itch to go back to it.
Music and painting, I think this is inspiring mix! This great to hear you have such a wonderful museum in your area! I like music too, but I cannot sing or compose. Have you ever thought that music has colors?
Wish you all the best in your painting path! This is one of the exciting ones especially after 30 years to hear that internal calling and start following it!
