This is painting #48 for me and the first in my series of video game themed paintings. I had been trying to find the motivation and courage to paint this one for almost a year now. I have a folder with notes and pictures where I've already planned all of the paintings in the series, but they all look like a challenge. Most of the time, I want to use painting as a way to wind down, not to add more stress. This one was the latter. But sometimes, a bit of a challenge is needed to develop. As humans, we grow and learn from our hardships and mistakes, after all. This is my interpretation of "Lake Orangatanga" from the Donkey Kong Country series, but more specifically, it's based off the landscape in the first level of Donkey Kong Country 3 - "Lakeside Limbo." If you Google that, you'll get an idea of what I was going for. Overall, this was my longest paint day ever, clocking in at 4 hours. Ironically, it's one of my least favorite paintings I've made in quite a while. I wasn't happy with the sky or clouds so I actually scraped it all off and blended back in with the two inch. It worked really well and also took off some paint so my clouds stuck a bit better afterwards. I found it very difficult to get the main snow-capped mountain to look right. Ended up scraping it off and retrying 3 times. By this point, I was over 2.5 hours in, tired, and admittedly, getting inpatient. I did the reflections rather quickly and I don't think they turned out so well. I decided to gently blend them in to make them look more like reflections. By the end, I had intended to make the dock but I was completely exhausted. I decided to soldier on and get it done. I'm really not great with angles and painting manmade structures, and I think it shows. I decided to add a bit of stuff to the bottom right to fill that in. Overall, I'm glad I finally made this one, but I'll probably re-attempt it in the future. If anyone has any video game themed ideas that would make for a great landscape, let me know! 18x24
Very interesting idea behind. I had to google. It is very close I think.
Sorry but cannot share any ideas. I remember only Super Mario from my old days. There was not much of the landscapes there. Is it even considered video game?
Wow, now that's a reflection! What a great start to your series. I can't wait to see more!

Still a great attempt Lightsnow, and what a great challenge videa game sceneries must be!!
As an idea … I thought immediately at Tomb Raider III, where Lara is in the Scottish highlands. Perhaps worth to have a look at?
Best of luck with future endeavourments and till next one!
