Canadian sunset

Painting # 99. This is the first painting in a series of 3 I am currently working on for our baby's room. The idea is to have 3 paintings side-by-side on the wall with 3 different outlines of woodland animals common to our area. This is my bear. It was a fun painting overall but this was a different canvas I bought at a different store that supposedly was primed with 3 coats of gesso. However, it basically absorbed all my liquid white and it was really difficult to blend. I tried to salvage it as best as I could and I make sure to add a really solid coat of gesso to the other 2 canvases I will be using for this series. I'm pretty sure this is a 12x24.

Hey, very beautiful painting and concept! Might I ask what the brand of the canvases was? I’m also from Canada, and also purchased some supposedly “triple gessoed” canvas that were just soaking all the oil.

And again, amazing painting

This is so pretty and a very nice idea to use animal cutouts for a baby's room! Nice work!

I love this too I am in Canada was thinking of doing something like this with the apple Bob did

Thanks all! The brand of the canvas itself is a Mont Marte studio canvas pine frame. I should have known as I've learned to always slap on a coat of gesso onto suspect canvases unless they are genuine high quality canvases from an art store. Buying a canvas for 5$ at a general store should raise up some red flags as a decent, well-primed 18x24 is usually 12-15$ here in Canada. I posted about this recently (still have to make a quick article), but I now use a small flatscreen tv, flat on it's back, where I 'google chromecast' an outline to and trace over it with contact paper and a marker. I finally found a brand of contact paper that sticks really well - duct tape brand at Walmart. That's how I was able to cut out all the little details here, much like Bob did with the apple, the map of Florida, etc. Now, the possibilities are absolutely endless and that opens up a whole other area of possibility!

Thanks for the tip on a brand that works!
