Can't remember I ever created such a sky in oils! When I saw this watercolor tutorial (where she used only two colors) I had to try to paint it, the first attempt was not satisfying, in the second attempt I started with the sky and not with sketching, because the sky is the most critical part of this painting (the water and paint has to flow in the right way) and this one succeeded much better, knowing I was using just very cheap paint and brushes, on watercolor paper of 29,7 x 21 cm (A4 format).

wow so pretty!
Super JosβοΈ
Your sky is amazing and you are right it is the most important part of this painting which states the vast remoteness of this Scottish scene. That doesn't take anything away from the rest of it though, yout tiny buildings look vulnerable. Great job. I don't like sketching, I'm rubbish at itπ
Thank you Dirk, Sandy, Cold, P, Jeff, Brian and Helen ( I first wanted to know if my sky was satisfying enough, before setting up the rest of the painting with the fineliner and in this way I could protect the lower part of the painting from the wet paint used for the sky, but for sure the sky was the most exciting part to do, glad you like it).
Gorgeous!
Thank you Elsie!

Hey Jos , a wonderful sky you created . I think with oil it makes it more difficult nothing changes to the fact that the painting looks great. Top ππΌπ©πͺπ³π±
