Blood moon

Great painting, exactly the sort of image that attracts me. As a novice though, I struggle with how to apply Bob's techniques in this way. If you don't mind me asking - was this a black canvas, did you mask out the moon shape, how did you get the pattern on the moon, eg did you just dab on highlights similar to how trees are done? Thanks

I used large packing tape to make the moon shape & a natural sponge to dab on grey & white gesso then after dried i covered with painting tape & gesso black the canvas
