A painting "experiment" on a 10" goatskin drum. I used oils, as this was suggested on the internet. I chose to mix my favorite "Bob" brown from Alizarin Crimson and Sap Green. The transparency of the color is the look I need. It acted sort like a henna ink on the natural skin when I applied the paint. I thinned it down (almost to a consistency for branches) for the darkest value, and thinned 2x more for 2 additional lighter values.
I did a light pencil sketch on the drum before painting. Due to the technique and the nature of the skin, there is only ONE chance for each stroke LOL! Once it is applied it is permanent. It was both nerve-racking and freeing at the same time knowing it was a one shot deal!
Some additional small pics also.
