"Joy" reflects the pureness of joy in childhood; experienced here in a snowfall (remember the feeling?).
This is my first human painting :) and the lucky subject is my granddaughter. The original photo was taken in the summer and instead of snowflakes she was catching bubbles, so I had to improvise the sweater.
She is a beautiful child, she looks like a porcelain doll. Lovely painting.
Wow! So awesome. She will love that picture forever.
In Austria we don't have Santa bringing the Christmas gifts in the morning of the 25th, but the Christkind (Christ Child) coming on the evening of the 24th.
This is pretty much how I always imagined the Christkind
Lovely, I can really feel that emotion. Beautiful!
Thanks so much everyone for your kind compliments!
Felix - my husband's family came from Germany in the early 1900's and celebrated the St. Nicholas tradition, but this tradition must have been lost through the generations because he had not heard of it. I was quite shocked when I googled for the Christkind and the images of the child were so similar to my granddaughter! Thank you for sharing that with me 😊
"Heiliger Nikolaus" is another tradition. He visits on the sixth of December to judge kids for how they behaved during the last year. They are provided detailed lists of highlights and low lights of the kids' behaviour by the parents.
Good kids receive clementines, peanuts still in their shells, and chocolate from him. Bad kids get threatened to be beaten (or really beaten, depending on the family) by his furry companion the "Krampus".
Krampuse have their own day on December 5h. Here you have "Krampusläufe" where groups of men in Krampus costumes run through the streets (first in an organized parade, then freely). If you want to see the most extremes of these check out "Krampuslauf Tirol" on YouTube.
Beautiful...reminds me of a 1940s biscuit tin, sounds silly but thats what i get from this wonderful painting....gets my vote!
Thanks Terry!
Really nice! Her expression of amazement and awe with the snow reminds me of my little girl’s interest in snow. Well done :)
Thank you Daniel!
