This is a study after "Fall Sunset" by Dwight William Tryon, probably painted sometime around 1900. This study is 12x16in (30x40cm) on panel mounted with cotton canvas using Maroger medium.
I really liked the look of the original and thought it would be nice to do a study with this kind of use of complementary colors.
Amazing texture! This maroger is really good! I think it is absolutely amazing impression of night!
Thank you both, I really appreciate it!
@Jin7, I'm not sure how long exactly this painting took, but it happened over four sessions:
1. black sketch on toned panel, just for laying out the major shapes
2. bulking in the sky
3. bulking in the land + some detail
4. details
Dear dracula
Thank you for the information.
I took a look at the original and compared both. Your version is extremely close. I had trouble telling them a part. Awesome work!
