My first oil painting since almost 3 weeks. I wanted to make something totally crazy in color and not too difficult. So I did. this one from Bill. The episode is from the series 'The magic of Oil Painting III' where not every episode is available online. This one is, but not at the official Alexander channel.
Maybe I didn't mention it yet, but I like paintings which have a phtalo greenish hue. Might not look realistic for the purists, but I like it.
Oils on canvas panel 16 x 24 in (40 x 60 cm)
Thanks Coldethel. Glad you like it.
Cool Tom๐๐๐ผ๐ฉ๐ช
Very nice and inspiring!
Many thanks Dirk. Curious to see something new from you too. I have some time of work after easter and there I plan a lot of new pictures.
Thanks a lot Jos. This tutorial is available on YouTube twice. I used that one https://youtu.be/p9-SpDuYDYE as it has the better quality.
Thanks Tom, I found it on Vimeo already!
Nice as always. What I like the most is the green in the sky. Don't see it much but here it works super.
Hey Tom , First Problem is work, You know that ,Family , Sports etc. Come on top of it . I'm trying to improve my Seascapes right now and so the next one will probably also be one.iIch arbeite quasi um meine Tochter do Liste herum. Look at a lot of things right now. Bill, Josh, Paul , Justin and some others.Seascapes are not exactly my core competence ๐I haven't been painting for quite so long but I'm working on it ๐๐ผThere are some seascape heavens where you hammer layers on top of each other and get a crisis when blinding. Maybe next week something new .
Maybe it is not on the ๐? Imagination can take us wherever.
I noticed you prefer paintings with sun rays in them?
Perfect Jos. So Iโm looking forward for your version.
Thanks a lot Matt. I think phtalo green is a great color to use in the sky.
I understand Dirk. I run into similar troubles. I think your seascapes are great yet already.
I like other scenes more but this is my personal preference. Looking forward!
Thanks for your attention Sunny. Indeed, this might be a seascape from a foreign planet, good idea๐
Well the sun rays are the school from Bill. He often uses them but I find it not so easy to create them.
I agree with Sunnylady AND I love the colors used!
Thanks Brian!
@Tom, I see you are struggling with the sunrays, because often the rest of the painting looks light even there are a lot of details. Maybe there is some other technique to do them? Maybe some sort of glazing with zinc white and yellow/orange/red color whatever your sun position on the sky?
The main problem is that I use an extremely firm white. I need that because else my knifework is not proper.
But for sun rays I think I would need to thin it a bit because it does not come off the brush, even I never use pure white anywhere. But if I thin it too much the rays are gone.
To find that out is my main challenge. But I am not so unhappy with these here. It should just have a touch of rays beyond the dark cloud.
Do you thin with thinner or linseed oil?
I never use pure linseed oil. It makes colors (especially the light ones) yellowish. Here I thinned with liquid white which is a bit better.
For tree highlights I mainly use thinner.
What about 50/50 ratio to thin sun rays? You need to have a fatter medium to go the top of previous less fat medium. If not linseed there were couple of other oils that do not have yellow tint. I do not recall the names though.
Thank you for your recognition, Tom. I always try to make everything to the maximum. So there's room for improvement ( Luft nach oben)๐if you feel like it, take a look at Justin Wozniak, Seascapes. He is the sky master (Bob Ross style) in my eyes.
Most of the time sun rays have a warm yellowish tint. Maybe linseed is not a bad thing with its natural tint.
Gorgeous Tom! Love the light shining down!
Well thank you for all the hints Sunny. I will think about them when I do my next Sundayโs๐
You will do your way Dirk. You improved very fast!
Many thanks Sandy!
Love Bill Alexander! Great work with your seascape :)
Many thanks Daniel!
Wow!!!! Tom this is such a gorgeous seascape!!! Those colors are so pretty! It looks soft but rough at the same time, calm but very alive! Love it!
Many thanks Nancy, glad you liked it. ๐
