River Sunset - Bill Alexander

Tom0779 23 Aug 2024

From the Book ‚The Magic of Oil Painting III‘.
It has been quite some time since I have painted one of those red sunsets from Bill.
Recently when I went through my book collection I discovered that episode from the early series.
So here is the outcome. As often I used a crimson with high pigmentation for the sky. In my opinion it makes a huge difference to a regular one.
A very straight forward episode without a lot of challenges except the sky.
This is oils on canvas panel 16 x 20 inches (40 x 50 cm)

Does Bill use different red colours than Bob?

Thank you Bob!

Thanks a lot Colin.

Thanks a lot David.

Thanks Cold for your continued Support.

Thank you Jeff.

Thank you Titia.
Bill uses 'Permanent' Red. But according to my experience it may differ between the brands. I used Permanent Red from Lukas1862 brand. This is the most expensive red from them and I only use it for such skies. Also I used W&N professional Alizarin Crimson which I also use only if the crimson should be dominant. It has a very high pigmentation and it is awful expensive compared to regular crimson.
I hope this answers your question. Don't hesitate to ask more.
